Austria will start on 29 February with a friendly match against Finland from 2012. The ÖFB has chosen the Wörthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt as the venue for the meeting with the Scandinavians, in whose ranks as Schalke shooting star Teemu Pukki. The match against the Scandinavian countries is our seventh game of the Austrian national team in a little more than four years ago opened the Wörthersee Stadium. Alpen Adria Haven Festival
4 days of celebration along the eastern bay of Lake Wörthersee – folk music, easy listening music, DJs, blues, jazz and much more with performances on a number of different stages. Great regional food and drink specialities to try from Carinthia, Slovenia, Croatia, Istria; boat parade, lottery, Nauti children’s entertainment and much more make for a very varied programme.

Second Alps Adriatic Craft Market
The great success of last year prompted the city of Klagenfurt, Dept. of Culture in cooperation with the Carinthian initiative crafts, also this year to invite approximately 80 exhibitors for the 2nd Alps Adriatic craft market to Klagenfurt. Self-made goods and crafts from all sectors will be offered at the Neue Platz around the Lindwurm from 9am to 6pm. An extensive work program and presentations will inspire visitors at the market.

Carinthia Golf Open
The golf-sport highlight of the year: After Martin Wiegele’s victory in front of a home crowd and his spectacular show, the stars of golf will again stop at Lake Wörthersee in 2012 at the Kärnten Golf Open presented by Mazda on the Klagenfurt-Seltenheim golf course. The entire Austrian golf elite will compete.

5150 Triathlon
The first 5150 triathlon with a 1.5 km swim, a 10 km run and a 40 km cycle race – Olympic distance – was a huge success. On 10 June 2012, this latest child of the Ironman family will return to the eastern bay of Lake Wörthersee in Klagenfurt.

Wörthersee Classics
Gustav Mahler composed his greatest symphonies in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee in the summers between 1900 and 1907. Other famous composers, such as Johannes Brahms, Anton Webern and Alban Berg also enjoyed close relationships to Carinthia. The concert week in June is dedicated to their memory: At the “Wörthersee Classics”, world famous orchestras and soloists of international renown perform music composed by the Wörthersee composers. The concerts are held at Klagenfurt Concert Hall.

Carinthia Ironman Austria
Europe’s biggest triathlon begins in the eastern bay of Lake Wörthersee in Klagenfurt: this is where the “iron athletes” will get going to complete a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km cycle race and a 42.2 km run. And thousands of fans will be there to cheer them on.

36. Tage der deutschsprachigen Literatur

36th Festival of German-Language Literature
In 2012 Klagenfurt am Wörthersee becomes the capital of literature for the 36th time. 14 authors from Austria, Germany and Switzerland read for the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize, worth € 25,000. All the competing texts will be online in eight languages. 3sat TV station will broadcast live.

Musikforum
Jazz fans and friends of 20th century classical music will find the festival in the arcades and rooms of Viktring Cistercian Monastery very much to their liking. International stars of these genres hold master classes for talented students from around the world and give a series of concerts in the impressive atmosphere of Viktring Monastery. The Music Forum is also the event where the Gustav Mahler Prize is awarded for outstanding compositions.

Jedes Jahr im August treffen sich in Klagenfurt ca. 85 Töpfer und Keramiker aus ganz Europa um am Neuen Platz in Klagenfurt ihre ausschließlich selbst gefertigten Töpferwaren anzubieten. Ein tolles Rahmenprogramm mit Vorführungen, Kindertöpfern und Straßenmusiker zieht Urlauber und Einheimische Besucher in die Innenstadt um den Töpfermarkt zu besuchen. Schauen, bummeln, kaufen und staunen ist angesagt.
